Sacred Heart’s basketball team will play in the Seventh Region championship game for the first time since 2009.
The Valkyries defeated Manual 57-42 Thursday night at Valley High School, earning sweet revenge for last season’s heartbreaking overtime loss to the Crimsons in the semifinals. In fact, Sacred Heart had lost overtime games in the semifinals the past two years.
“Last year’s loss was on my mind the whole way,” Sacred Heart head coach Donna Moir said. “Even though we led by 17 in the fourth quarter, I thought something was going to happen. It definitely played on my mind, but I don’t think it did on the kids. We did what we needed to, and we have a chance to be Seventh Region champs.”
