Holy Cross RB is the newest "Questions" participant

Each week, LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 key questions - some in-depth, some lighthearted - that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Below are the "20 Key Questions," brought to you by Key Financial Mortgage LLC.

One of the most exciting stories of the Louisville area high school football season, to this point, features a team that, at times over the years, has been lost in the shuffle. In these parts, when statistics like undefeated record (8-0), averaging over 41 points per game, and outscoring opponents 329-102 are spouted, most fans associate those stats with Trinity or St. Xavier. Never Holy Cross.

But in fact, in 2010, it is the Holy Cross Cougars who are putting up big numbers, manhandling teams on its schedule, and making a splash not only in Class A, but throughout the entire state. The Cougars, who are coached by Mike Fletcher, are off to their best start since 2003. That season, Holy Cross was 12-0 before losing to Danville 27-22 in the 1A state playoffs.

At the helm of this great story and even greater team, is Holy Cross running back Jesse Keen. The leader of an impressive rushing foursome for the Cougars, Keen has racked up nearly 900 of the 2,300 rushing yards that his team has accumulated, and has accounted for 96 of the Cougars' 329 points scored this season.

His leadership on the field led to a 12-0 Holy Cross win over rival DeSales High School in early Septemer, and has put his squad in a great position to run the table and close out an unblemished regular season schedule. Before that can be accomplished, however, Keen has to do three things: beat Kentucky Country Day (KCD) this Friday, beat Class 3A Paducah Tilghman on Oct. 23, and face the LouisvilleCatholicSports.com "20 Key Questions." The first of those three was accomplished below:

1. What is your favorite pump up music on game day?

"Right Above It" By Lil’ Wayne.

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game?

My Grandma's pre-game meal: steak, potatoes and salad.

3. Cats or Cards?

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level?

Randall Cobb, not just because he plays for Kentucky, but the way he performs is self motivating alone.

5. What is your favorite movie quote?

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. We were born to manifest the Glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."  -Coach Carter.

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports?

My faith is my primary source of guidance. Whenever in doubt, I turn to God.

7. What keeps you motivated?

My Dad, family, and friends keep me motivated and focused when I need it the most.

8. All time favorite board game?

The game "Sorry”
