DeSales tops Christian Academy 31-26

Heading into Friday's showdown with Christian Academy of Louisville, the dynamic DeSales High School (4-4) duo of running backs Garrit Leicht and Jeremy Lucas had combined for 1,079 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns for the season, making them one of the most dangerous 1-2 punches in the state.

The Centurions, who had a front row seat, quickly found out what makes that Colts backfield so special.

Leicht, who was voted last week as the LouisvilleCatholicSports.com high school football first half MVP, rushed for three scores on the ground and watched his tag team partner - Lucas - rumble for 202 yards, as DeSales took care of business and held off CAL 31-26 at Manual Stadium to stay unbeaten in district play.

Christian Academy (4-4), who had outscored its opponents 130-18 in the past two games, had no answer for the grinding ground attack of Head Coach Mark Sanders' DeSales team, who has now won two straight.

DeSales will play its final district game of the season next week at home against Carroll County before finishing its season against Class 6A Southern High School on Oct. 29.
