Brink Qualifies For Foot Locker Nationals
SHA cross country champ finishes 5th at regionals
Sacred Heart Academy senior Emma Brink is leaving no rock unturned during her final season of high school running competition.
Brink, who was recently named Kentucky's 2010 Miss Cross Country after capturing her fourth individual state cross country championship, has now qualified for the prestigious Foot Locker National Championships after finishing fifth in this past weekend's South Regional.
She completed the race on the 5K course with a time of 17:25.00, which is also a personal record for the Valkyrie. The regional competition was held in North Carolina - the state where Brink will run collegiately for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.
As for the Foot Locker event, there are four regional qualifiers in the country, and runners must finish in the top ten in order to qualify for the national competition. With her fifth place finish, Brink has earned herself one of the 40 spots in those nationals, which will be held on Dec. 11 in San Diego.
Considered one of the most decorated runners in the history of Kentucky, Brink recently had her name and jersey enshrined at the SHA gymnasium.
