Holy Cross basketball junior takes on the Questions

Each week, will be getting to know a new student-athlete from the area by asking him/her a series of 20 key questions - some in-depth, some lighthearted - that will provide insight into the thoughts and personalities of the boys and girls who are doing great things on and off the local courts, fields, tracks, and courses. Below are the "20 Key Questions," brought to you by Key Financial Mortgage LLC.

The Holy Cross High School boys basketball team is off to a 3-2 start this season, with its two losses coming to regional contender Trinity and a Western squad that sports a 5-1 record.

If the Cougars are to continue their early success and make an eventual run at the All "A" Classic title (and maybe even at the district championship), they will have to get big minutes out of junior Kendall Hammerstrom.

A graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Hammerstrom is currently averaging 16 points per game for Head Coach Mike Durham's squad and is one of the best pure shooters on the floor every time the Cougars play. His length has afforded him the ability to excel on both ends of the floor and his athleticism will be a driving factor in how far Holy Cross ultimately goes.

But off the court, Hammerstrom's academic goals and achievements are equally - if not more- staggering. He boasts a 4.0 GPA and is already considering such highly-regarded institutions of higher learning like Rice, Stanford, and Yale. He has dreams of one day being a surgeon and says he is adamant over the idea that, "student comes before athlete."

The Cougars hit the road for back-to-back holiday tournaments this weekend, including stops in Clinton County (Twin Lakes Holiday Classic) and Ohio County (Eagle Classic). Their next home game won't be until Jan. 17, when Hammerstrom and Co. will welcome fellow Catholic school Providence (IN) from just across the river.

But before his crazy schedule of exams and basketball could continue, Hammerstrom took the time recently to participate in "20 Key Questions." His answers are below.
