Valkyries open game on huge run, hold on for 64-59 win

Leading scorer Monica McGreal (19) and senior Morgan Clemons (18) combined for 37 points and 13 rebounds on Monday afternoon and led Sacred Heart Academy to a 64-59 win over Ryle High School in the Republic Bank Classic in Lexington, KY.

It was SHA's second win at the event and seventh overall this season.

The Valkyries used an 18-2 run to open the game and bury the Raiders, who were unable to recover from the opening quarter deficit. Clemons had 11 of the aforementioned rebounds for another double-double. She also had four assists and converted 8-of-9 free throw attempts.

McGreal was 8-of-13 from the field in accumulating her game-high point toal. Her field goal percentage contributed to SHA shooting a combined 55.8 percent for the game. It was the seventh straight win for Sacred Heart to start the season and only the second loss for Ryle who is now 4-2.

Also getting into today's mix were senior Maddie Peabody (10 points; 2-of-4 from the 3-point line), Annamarie Campbell (nine points and four rebounds), and Hannah Washle (six points; 3-of-3 from the field; five rebounds).

Abby Jump of Ryle scored her 1,000th career point in this game.

The Valkyries will play another game in the Republic Bank Classic on Tuesday. Their opponent is "to be announced," and was not available at the time of this release.
