Toppers use 22-0 start to advance in All "A" Classic

Presentation Academy held Portland Christian scoreless in the second and fourth quarters and completely dominated Portland Christian on Wednesday night.

The Toppers scored the first 22 points of the game en route to a 76-9 win over the Eagles at DeSales High School and set up a 6th Region All "A" Classic semifinal matchup with Holy Cross on Thursday.

It was the third highest point output of the season for Presentation. The Toppers scored 96 points against the same Portland Christian team on Dec. 14 and put up 93 points on Shawnee two weeks ago.

Pres junior guard Bailey Reeder scored six of her team's first eight points. She made a layup and was fouled with 6:26 to go in the first quarter and helped Presentation charge out to a 8-0 lead.

As mentioned, Presentation scored the first 22 points of the game and didn't allow a Portland Christian point until Eagles' junior Mallory Almon hit a 3-pointer at the 1:52 mark.

Trouble continued for Portland Christian in the second quarter, as Presentation owned the boards. On one particular possession at the 4:12 point, the Toppers had seven offensive rebounds and subsequent putbacks, which eventually ended with Pres' Ashlee Kirchner getting fouled on a shot attempt. Kirchner converted one of two free throws to stretch the lead to 37-3.

Reeder's three-point play with 3:34 to go in the third quarter gave Presentation its first 50-point lead at 59-9 and junior Kayla Payne's steal (off Portland Christian's 30th turnover of the night) and layup with 3:41 to go in the game gave the Toppers it largest lead of the night - a 70-9 advantage over the Eagles.

Reeder would go on to lead all scorers with 18 points. Fifteen of those were scored in the first half. Presentation guard Shelby Adams also started hot for her squad and finished with 17 points after scoring nine in the first quarter alone. Senior Rachel Russ (11), sophomore Michael Ann Humphreys (8), Kirchner (7), and sophomore Meredith Denger (6) also contributed to the lopsided victory.

Almon led Portland Christian with six points (two 3-pointers) and sophomore Michaela Brangers had the three points off a long ball in the third quarter.

Presentation (6-7) will take on Holy Cross (13-4) at 7:30pm on Thursday at DeSales, with a trip to the 6th Region All "A" Classic Championship on the line.
