Holy Cross Wins Regional Track Title

Cougars girls team finishes third in solid meet performance

The No. 1 ranked Holy Cross High School track and field boys team proved its top dog status on Tuesday, as the Cougars captured the Region Three, Class A championship and qualified for the state competition on May 27.

Holy Cross collected 150 total points throughout the meet and edged Bardstown (141) and Fort Knox (93) to capture the team championship.

There were several individual, standout performances that were crucial to Holy Cross' victory on Tuesday in Bardstown, KY:

  • Sophomore Jacob Thomson (2:02.55) and senior Collin Ray (2:04.78) finished first and second in the 800 Meter Run
  • Thomson (4:35.24) and Dominic Perronie (4:40.60) finished first and second in the 1600 Meter Run
  • Thomson (9:53.16) and Perronie (10:01.11) finished first and second in the 3200 Meter Run
  • Greg Johnson (15.75) finished second in the 110 Meter Hurdles
  • Johnson (31.50) finished first n the 300 Meter Hurdles
  • The 4x800 Meter Relay (Ray, Perronie, Morgan Hunter, and Thomson; 8:33.68) finished first
  • Kendall Hammerstrom (6'0") finished first in the high jump
  • Aaron Drury (19'11") finished first in the long jump
  • Drury (41'02") and Hammerstrom (38'03") finished first and second in the Triple Jump
  • Jeremy Glass (43'03") finished first in the Shot Put

On the girls side, the Cougars finished third overall in the team competition with a final point total of 85. Holy Cross came behind host Bardstown (217) and Fort Knox (105.5), and also had some strong performances from several athletes:

  • Jenna Johnston (2:40.70) finished fourth in the 800 Meter Run
  • Allye Kuerzi (20.02) and Carly Ryan (20.10) finished fourth and fifth in the 100 Meter Run
  • Elizabeth Hardt (52.04) finished second in the 300 Meter Run
  • The 4x800 Meter Relay (Katie Crowe, Hardt, Sara Schum, and Johnston; 10:38.10) finished first
  • Julie Skaggs (5'0) finished first in the High Jump
  • Maya Hardin (30'07") finished first in the Shot Put
  • Hardin (72'07") finished fourth in the Discus Throw

The Class A State Track & Field Meet will be held Friday, May 27 at the University of Louisville. Field events start at 8am and running events start at 9:30am.
