Mercy Academy
Mercy Academy junior Chau Tran shot a 75 at the 5th Region golf tournament to qualify her to play in the state tournament. Tran finished in the top 20 in the 2010 state tournament as a sophomore.
Sacred Heart Academy – 2011 State Champions
The Sacred Heart Academy golf team placed four team members in the top 24 spots and enjoyed a runaway team victory at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Championships at the Bowling Green Country Club.
The Valkyries finished with a team score of 649 strokes to win the team title by a healthy 43 shots.
Senior Emily Tofaute led the Valkyries by tying for ninth place recording a score of 157. Junior Katie Page tied for 12th place with a 161. The tightly packed top finishers were bolstered by sophomore Rachel Gathof’s 21st place showing at 165, and a 24th place finish from freshman Maddie Rose Hamilton who shot a 166.
It was Sacred Heart’s sixth state golf title and their first since 1993. Those six team titles place the Valkyries in the top spot in Kentucky girls golf, moving them ahead of Glasgow for the all-time lead in that category.
