The Trinity High School athletic teams had some strong performances last weekend:

Swimming and diving:  Michael Gilligan, David Bunnell, Chris Owen, Daniel Sykes, Mac Graven and Adam Bade led the Shamrocks to their second victory in a row at the annual Lake Cumberland Invitational in Somerset.

Basketball:  Trinity ended Newport Central Catholic's winning streak with a 59-42 victory. Darryl Hicks led the way with 27 points and was supported by Craig Owens (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Sam Strothman (4 points, 8 rebounds) as the Shamrocks improved to 10-3.

Football:  Seniors Jason Hatcher and James Quick played in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. Quick, a wide receiver who announced his commitment to the University of Louisville during the game, caught the winning touchdown pass and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.  Quick and Hatcher, a defensive end who has committed to USC,  played on the East team, which was coached by Trinity head coach Bob Beatty and assistant coach Andrew Coverdale.

Miscellaneous:  Senior Bobby Bryant was named a finalist for December’s Ken Towery/Courier-Journal Athlete of the Month for his contributions to the football and wrestling teams.

The Rocks will have more challenges this weekend. Upcoming events include:

  • The bowling team’s match against St. Xavier at Ten Pin Bowling Lanes on Friday.
  • The swimming team will compete in a meet against Sycamore (Ohio) on Saturday.
  • The basketball squad will take on archrival St. Xavier on Friday in Freedom Hall.
  • The lacrosse team is getting ready for its season, as are the track and volleyball teams.
