Rocks face PRP Friday night

Trinity 51 Western 41

Even without star shooting guard Darryl Hicks, Trinity’s basketball team defeated Western 51-41  Wednesday night in the second round of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament at Valley High School’s J.C. Cantrell Gymnasium.

Hicks suffered an undisclosed injury Monday at practice.

Trinity jumped to an 18-5 lead early.

The Warriors used a 10-0 run to pull within five midway through the third quarter, but the Shamrocks pushed their lead to 11 by the end of the quarter.

Western never seriously threatened after that.

Michael Stafford led Trinity with 10 points, and DeMarcus Page added nine.  Kittrell Withers paced Western with nine.

Up next for Trinity is No. 6 Pleasure Ridge Park at 8:30 p.m. Friday. The Rocks downed PRP 69-52 in the fifth-place game of last month’s King of the Bluegrass tournament.

However, this time Trinity won’t have Hicks, who scored 14 points in that game.

Ballard 80, DeSales 31

Sophomore Chase Shellman led the Colts with 15 points, but the top-ranked Bruins won in the second round of the Republic Bank LIT.

Ballard had a 20-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, and it was up by 24 at the half.

Disaster ensued for the Colts in the second half as they were outscored 36-11.

Lavonne Holland (16 points), Kelan Martin (15 points, seven rebounds) and Quentin Snider (14 points) scored in double figures for Ballard.

The loss knocked the Colts out of the LIT. They will host Bullitt Central at 8 p.m. Monday.
