Another successful sports week included a regional bowling title and wins by the basketball team and swimmers.

Basketball: With help from a noisy student section and drumline, Trinity's basketball team defeated Waggener 72-20 Friday night. James Quick led the way with 18 points and was supported by junior Trey Ivory's eight assists and five steals. The Shamrocks dominated from the start, racing to a 29-2 lead.

Saturday night Trinity traveled to Montgomery County and left with a 65-55 victory. Ivory led the Rocks with 23 points, and senior Miles Rice put up 13.

Trinity defeated Pleasure Ridge Park 71-34 Tuesday night.

Bowling: Conor Minogue bowled his way to the championship at the Fourth Region singles tournament on Monday at Fern Valley Strike and Spare. Minogue, a junior and the fourth seed, eliminated two competitors before defeating Manual’s Kiefer Hillerich 224-214 in the stepladder final.

Also bowling for the Rocks were senior Joe Wuertz, junior Justin Wiech and freshman Logan Clark. Thirty-two bowlers from eight schools competed for four spots in next week’s state tournament.

The state singles tournament is next Thursday and team is next Friday.

Swimming and diving: Trinity’s Nick Johnson placed second out of 29 competitors in last weekend’s Louisville Diving Invitational. The swimmers won a third straight Brown Bear Sprint. Kyle Hillebrand, Austin Schmiedler, Joey Domhoff and Clay Grant were among the leaders, posting impressive results in their corkscrew relay.

Baseball: Trinity continues training for tryouts beginning Feb. 14. When asked about the season, second baseman Jacob Steltenpohl said, "We're looking to win the first state championship for the school."

Football: The Rocks have begun training for the 2013 season after their  2012 run to the Class 6-A state championship. The team is training four days a week for about an hour. "We're working on exercises geared towards specific moves in football, giving us speed and endurance," safety Mitchell Smith said.

Other sports: Trinity’s ice hockey game against Owensboro on Jan. 25 was canceled due to inclement weather. The rugby team continues to gear up for the season, discussing rules and filling out paper work at a meeting Wednesday after school.
