BU's Frith earns National honor

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America announced Thursday that Bellarmine University's Emily Frith was its Women's Divison II National Athlete of the Week.

Despite muggy and soggy conditions on a difficult course at the Greater Louisville Classic, Frith raced to Bellarmine's all-time best 5K performance with a ninth-place overall finish in the meet's Gold Division in 17:26.72, making her the first Division II athlete to cross the line. Among those Division II schools she whose student-athletes she defeated include No. 8 Southern Indiana, No. 12 UW-Parkside, No. 14 Edinboro and No. 19 Tampa.

With the honor, Firth becomes the first Bellarmine runner to earn the national distinction.
