Basketball

The Shamrocks (1-0) opened their season with a 62-57 victory over Bowling Green.  After a sluggish first half, the Rocks took control in the third quarter. They were led by junior Raymond Spalding's 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Senior forward Craig Owens added eight points and seven rebounds.  Jax Levitch grabbed six rebounds. Senior point guard Trey Ivory netted 14 points and also had three assists and three steals.

Expectations high for basketball Shamrocks

Head coach Mike Szabo's squad is a preseason top-five team. Szabo's work over the past decade has produced the most successful run in the history of the school. The list of achievements is impressive:

*A championship in the renowned King of the Bluegrass Tournament

*Titles in the always-competitive Lexington Catholic Christmas Tournament

*Three titles in the famed Louisville Invitational Tournament

*Multiple invitations to prestigious national tournaments

*Multiple players on the Kentucky All-Star Team

*A player named as Kentucky Mr. Basketball

*Multiple players continuing their careers in college, with one playing professionally

*Two Seventh Region titles*

*The school's first state championship in basketball

This year's squad features two experienced seniors and a heralded junior class. The schedule is one of the toughest in history, with invitations to play in the King of the Bluegrass Tournament and the Kingdom of the Sun tourney (Ocala, Fla).

Trinity also has been invited to play in three weekend tournaments against tough Kentucky competition. The schedule includes familiar local foes, as well as last year's state champion, Madison Central. The Rocks hope for another berth in the LIT.

The schedule sees most early season games played on the road, with eight of  the last 12 games at home.

Ice hockey

Trinity lost to Cathedral 3-1 in a tight game Dec. 7. Freshman Ben Huls scored the Rocks' goal. He was assisted by senior Taylor Burdorf and sophomore Chris Mueller. The team looks to rebound this weekend with a four-game homestand.

* The team would like to congratulate senior Daniel Ryan on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Congratulations are also in order for seniors Taylor Burdorf, Ramsey Mayne and Mitchell Wise, who were named team captains for the 2014 season.

Football

Trinity freshman team quarterback Larry Harper was honored in a ceremony after school Dec. 11 in Alumni Hall. He will play in a game in San Antonio immediately following the Army All-Star game.
