A busy weekend in store for the Valkyries

Basketball: The varsity beat Atherton 68-38 in Tuesday's semifinals of the district tournament as DaiJia Ruffin scored 21 points. The Valkyries had a 36-to-15 points off of turnover ratio.

On Thursday night, Sacred Heart finished off the district tournament with a 73-31 win over Seneca. Ruffin led the way with 30 points and notched her 1,000th point in the process. The Valkyries dominated the Lady Redhawks 32-5 in points off of turnovers and 42-20 in points in the paint. Three SHA players were picked for the district all-tournament team: Ashley Johnson, Gretchen Samsel and Ruffin.

This weekend:

Cheerleading: SHA will compete in the First KHSAA competition on Saturday at Western Kentucky University.

Dance: The team will compete in the state competition on Saturday. It will participate in the HHip Hop and Jazz competitions.

Swimming and diving: Sacred Heart is competing in the state championships at the University of Louisville. The finals will start at 10 a.m. Saturday.
