The Bellarmine University Dance Team capped its 2012-13 season with a fourth-place finish in the Team Routine category of the NDA national competition April 1014 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Bellarmine team also took seventh in the Hip Hop division.

In the Team Routine competition — a mix of jazz, pom and hip hop styles — Bellarmine posted one of its best performances of the year in the preliminaries to advance to the finals, where their score of 9.023 was strong enough for fourth.

Bellarmine has participated in the competition for three years, and its 9.023 score is a program best.

The overall winner was Minnesota-Duluth, a school with an enrollment three times the size of Bellarmine’s.

In the Hip Hop competition, the Bellarmine Dance Team scored an 8.802 to finish ahead of 11 other schools.

For Bellarmine, the season began in October when the members first learned their routines, both of which were just over two minutes in length. That means  the season's effort comes down to those two minutes, so the routine must be flawless.

Co-head Dance Team Coaches Janine Klutka and Christy Minton-Schnieders plan to take the squad back to nationals next year.
