Track and Field: It was another big week for the track and field team, as they won the Brother Borgia/ Coach Cooper Invitational in the seniors’ last home meet. The Tigers rested their top lineup in the dual meet against Trinity last Tuesday but made up for it by demolishing the second-place Shamrocks and the rest of the field on Saturday. Senior Zach McKendrick won the 110 meter hurdles  in his home finale, and junior Alex Medley won the pole vault for the Tigers. In addition, Max Mudd placed second in the 1600 and William Mulloy placed second in the 3200. The track and field team looks poised to make a run at the state title, but first they must compete in the Eastern Relays this week, on Thursday, April 27.

Lacrosse: The lacrosse team had a light week as their only game was against Male, a contest which they easily won, 16-3. This week, they will face Collegiate on Wednesday, April 24 before travelling to the Culver City Classic in Indiana over the weekend. There they will face off with Zionsville and Culver high schools.

Baseball: The Tiger baseball team continued its dominance over the state of Kentucky this week, extending its winning streak to 13 games. First, it dominated DeSales on Wednesday, April 17, winning 10-0 in only six innings. Senior Pitcher Ben Britt threw a five-inning no-hitter, and despite his relief pitcher Marc Hellmueler allowing one hit in the sixth inning, the Tigers were able to force a victory by the mercy rule in six innings. Then, on Monday, April 22, the Tigers handled Our Lady of Providence, 6-3. A busy week awaits the team as it will play in three games in the LIT this weekend.

Tennis:  The tennis team extended its record to 22-2 this week by first dominating Manual and then pulling out a gritty victory in the Jamboree tournament on Sunday, April 20. In the victory over Manual, Brandon Lancaster, Matt Graft and Ben Gornet all won their singles matches. Then, in the Jamboree, the team needed victories by seniors Sean Donohue and Zach Kuo in the final two singles matches for the Tigers to pull out a victory, and the two seniors got it done. Next, the team will play in the Carter Invitational this weekend.

Rugby: The Tiger rugby teams suffered two tough losses this weekend at the hands of the twelfth-ranked team in the nation, Cleveland St. Edwards. The team will look to rebound from its two-game losing streak against out-of-state competition with matches against Iroquois and Middletown this Sunday, April 28.

Volleyball: The volleyball team dropped a very hard-fought match against Cincinnati Moeller this past Tuesday, April 16. Despite keeping it close and giving themselves a chance to win all three sets, the Tigers fell three sets to none. There is no time for the team to dwell on the loss, however, as the state championship is this Saturday, April 27. The Tigers defeated their greatest in-state competition by beating Trinity earlier this season, so hopes are high that the team can bring a championship back to St. X.

Bass Fishing: The bass fishing team will take its four state qualifiers, Lucas Miller, Evan Bale, Carter O’Brien and David Brewer, to the inaugural state championship bass fishing tournament this Friday and Saturday on Kentucky Lake. The foursome will try to repeat its success from the regional tournament against 44 other boats to win St. X the first ever bass fishing state championship.
