St. Xavier’s Sean Donohue may have lost to Covington Catholic’s Austin Hussey in the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament semifinals last Saturday. But the 2013 graduate is still racking up awards even though his high school playing days have come to an end.

Donohue learned Wednesday afternoon that he has been named an All-American by the National High School Tennis All-American Foundation.

A student/athlete must maintain an above average academic and citizenship record to receive consideration as an All-American tennis player, compete on a high school tennis team, and garner an individual national ranking.

In order to earn an individual national ranking, the player must compete throughout the year in sectional, regional, and national tournaments sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association.  A player with a national ranking has a proven match play record that clearly demonstrates he/she has a reached the pinnacle of national junior competitions and is one of the premier tennis players in his/her age division in America.

As a Tiger, Donohue won an individual title his junior year and won a doubles title his sophomore year while playing alongside Joe Siami. The Tigers also won four consecutive state titles while Donohue was at St. X.

Donohue will play tennis for the University of Alabama next season.
