The Mercy Academy Jaguars cheer team is competing at the NCA Jr/Sr High School Nationals in Dallas,TX this weekend and their first round performance put them at the top of the charts in the Advanced Medium Varsity Division.

Coach Deidre Mackin’s Jaguars score of 96.58 has them leading their 10 team division in the competition held at the Dallas Convention Center. Their second round performance will be late Sunday evening.

Scoring is weighted and the first round score counts as 25 percent, the second round counts for 75 percent of the team’s total score.

“Our first round performance was incredible,” said Mackin. “We weren’t sure how our routine would score on the score sheet or against these other amazing teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, California and Pennsylvania. We were really looking forward to seeing our preliminary numbers and what the judges liked or wanted to see more of. For the second round, we have some minor things to work on to hopefully raise our score today, but overall we just have to stay focused. Having this opportunity to compete against the best of the best has been amazing so far!”

LouisvilleCatholicSports.com will have more on this story as the competition comes to a close late Sunday evening.
