A pair of goals in the game's final three and a half minutes propelled the Bellarmine University field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Centre College Colonels in a game played at Bellarmine's Owsley Brown Frazier Stadium.

The Knights' Alexis Van Wallaghen broke a 2-2 tie with 3:18 remaining when she rocketed a shot past Centre goalie Kirby Roberts on a pass from Aimee Ilgenfritz on a penalty corner.

Just a half a minute later, Bellarmine got an important "insurance" goal when Kelsey O'Bryan sent a pass from the left corner along the end line that Kathryn Scheidtmiller collected and redirected for the score.

The game lacked offensive production for a long time as the teams played the first half to a scoreless tie.  Bellarmine finally opened the game's scoring seven minutes into the second period when O'Bryan redirected a pass from Schneidtmiller.

Meghan Williams made it 2-0 Bellarmine in the game's 51st minute with her second goal of the season. The Colonels, who came into the game on an eight-game win streak, refused to go quietly.  Just two minutes after Williams' goal, Centre's Julie Gates fired a shot that Bellarmine goalie Lara Williams stopped, but Nicole DeHerde was there to collect the rebound and put the Colonels on the board.

Hayley Barker pulled Centre even at two apiece when she found open space in the Bellarmine defense and dribbled down the left side of field and rifled a shot as soon as she reached the arc.  The ball glanced off the Bellarmine goalie and into the cage to tie the game with 6:32 remaining.

Statistically, the Knights owned advantages in shots (13-5) and in penalty corners (10-5) while Centre registered twice as many saves (4-2).

Bellarmine, winners of their last three, improves to 6-4 overall.  The Colonels slip to 10-4.

The Knights, who have played just three games at home this season, hit the road again this coming week as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Bloomsburg University on Saturday and Millersburg University on Sunday.
