GLVC Championships: Knights set 24 records

The Bellarmine University men's and women's swim teams established 24 new school records at the inaugural GLVC Championships held Feb. 12-15 at the Crawfordsville (Ind.) Aquatic Center.

Individually, two swimmers qualified for the Championship finals with Amanda Forti taking fourth in the 400 individual medley, and Christian Taylor earning a fourth place finish in the 200 backstroke and a seventh place in the 100 backstroke.

Others picking up points in the consolation finals (9th-16th place) included:

WOMEN:

*Gretchen Cox:  1000 freestyle, 16th; 200 freestyle 15th

*Alex Caneris: 100 breaststroke, 14th; 200 breaststroke, 12th

*Hannah Warfel: 100 breaststroke, 15th; 200 breastroke, 13th

*Casey Gueernsey: 200 breastroke, 15th

*Emma Bryan: 100 backstroke, 16th

MEN:

*Justin Lok: 200 freestyle, 13th; 200 butterfly, 14th

*Jordan Clevenger: 100 backstroke, 15th; 200 backstroke, 14th

*Trent Mattingly: 100 breastroke, 16th

"Overall I believe this was an outstanding meet for our swim team on many fronts," said Bellarmine Coach John Brucato. "Not only did we establish 24 new team records, we showed we can be competitive in one of the top swimming conference meets in the country. We will return to the 2015 GLVC Championships with a stronger team; we will put more swimmers in the top finalist positions; and our goal is have our first ever NCAA Championship qualifiers."
