Bellarmine University senior track and cross country standout Robert Sandlin, Jr. has been selected to compete in the men's 1500m at the USATF (United States of America Track and Field) Indoor National Championships on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 4:20 p.m. Eastern Time.  The competition is being held in Albuquerque, N.M., and is being shown live on television on NBCSN and Universal (coverage will alternate between the two).

Bellarmine officials and Sandlin, himself, did not learn until late Friday that he had been selected to compete. The selection criteria indicated that a maximum of 12 runners would run in a one heat final, but USATF officials decided late to accept all 19 runners who met the national standard and had declared. With the expansion of the field, the final will be run in  two heats.

Sandlin, who hit the national standard of 4:01.20 for the mile at the Meyo Mile at Notre Dame two weeks ago, is the first Bellarmine athlete in history to qualify and compete in the USATF Championships.  The only representative from the Grealt Lakes Valley Conference at the Indoor Championships, Sandlin earned All America status at last year's NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships with his fourth place finish in the 1500.
