Senior midfielder Dan Schiavi drilled a penalty kick and the Bellarmine University men's soccer team took advantage of an own goal by Truman State to capture a come-from-behind 2-1 victory on Sunday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

The Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup between the Knights (3-3-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) and the previously unbeaten Bulldogs (3-1-1, 2-1-1) was a physical affair, and Bellarmine capitalized on whistles that resulted in scoring opportunities for BU after Truman State jumped ahead in the 15th minute on a goal by Nate Luebbert off an assist from Blake LaTendresse.

Bellarmine knotted it up at 1-all in the 24th minute on a Schiavi score that was set up by senior forward Jacob Kaye getting fouled in the box. Schiavi subsequently buried his second penalty kick of the season in collecting his third goal.

The two-time All-Midwest Region selection also had a hand in the game-winner after halftime for Bellarmine. It happened in the 57th minute after Schiavi blasted a free kick from the left wing that landed near the goal in the center of the field. In attempting to remove the ball from the goal area, the Bulldogs instead appeared to direct it into the net for an own goal.

The scoring opportunities for the two teams were mostly even. They each took 14 shots, although Bellarmine had a 7-4 edge on shots on goal.

Sophomore keeper Tommy Hebert made his second start in goal for the Knights and recorded three saves, including a diving stop. Truman State goalie Drew Garrone totaled five saves.

Bellarmine hosts a GLVC doubleheader on the upcoming Alumni Weekend. The Knights will welcome Saint Joseph's to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on Friday and Indianapolis on Sunday. First kicks are at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
