17 St. Xavier student athletes announce college decisions

Seventeen St. Xavier student-athletes announced their college decisions Tuesday afternoon at the school. They included eight football players, two lacrosse players, two track/cross country runners, and one player each from basketball, soccer, wrestling, baseball and golf. Here is a list of the student-athletes, their sports and the school each has chosen to attend.

Football

  • Clark Campbell - Western Kentucky University – Campbell made 26 tackles and one interception as a senior last season.
  • Noah Houk – University of Kentucky – Houk completed 120 of 252 passes for 1,324 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
  • Tyler Haycraft – University of Louisville – Haycraft is an offensive lineman that helped the Tigers running backs gain over 1,500 yards on the ground.
  • Michael Ackerman – Centre College – Ackerman is a wide receiver and caught 26 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Davis Kannapell – Centre College – Kannapell is a tight end and caught 18 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Connor Barnes – Centre College – Barnes is a linebacker and made 29 tackles and one interception.
  • Lowell Brown – Centre College – Brown is an offensive lineman that helped the St. X running backs gain over 1,500 yards on the ground.
  • Ben Logsdon –  Centre College.

Soccer:

Dean Mock – Hanover College – Mock netted eight goals and dished out two assists. He was a member of the team that state championships as a freshman and sophomore.

Lacrosse

  • Alex Cherry – Transylvania University  
  • Leland Gray – Centre College – Gray is an attacker for a St. X team that has two state championships in his first three years. He scored four goals in last year’s state title game. This year’s state championship game is next Friday.

Track/Cross Country

  • William Mulloy – Indiana University – Mulloy has had a storied track and field career. He finished first in the 1,600 meters and second in the 800 at last year’s state track and field meet. Mulloy is among the favorites in those events at the state meet this year which will be held later in May.
  • Andrew Garvey – University of Miami, FL – Garvey finished 17th at the Class 3-A state cross country meet this past fall.

Basketball

Lucas Miller – Hanover – Miller averaged 10.4 points per game as a senior and hit 37 of 97 three-pointers (38.1 percent). 

Wrestling:

Michael Beets – Campbellsville – Beets qualified for the state meet this past winter in the 120-pound weight class.

Baseball

Josh Finerty – Bellarmine University – Finerty was a member of the 2014 state championship team and currently plays for the team that’s ranked No. 2 in the state this season.

Golf

Jack Berger – Transylvania University – Berger was a member of this year’s state championship golf team.
