The St. Edward Braves defeated St. Mary’s Monarchs 49-14 to remain unbeaten in 8-A play Sunday afternoon at St. Martha field.

Following an unsuccessful opening drive for the Monarchs, the Braves’ Bradley West scored the first touchdown and the PAT giving his side an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. And the touchdowns kept coming early.

On the Braves’ second possession Landon Simpson ran the ball in for a one-yard touchdown, but the Monarchs Will McMillan blocked the PAT and the Braves led 14-0.

Next up for St. Edward was a West five-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wiseman to give the Braves a 22-0 lead.

St.Mary’s was able to convert for a first down with 5:32 left in the first half, but a sack by the Braves’ duo of Thomas Smith and Blane Probus ended the drive for the Monarchs. The final touchdown in the first half for the Braves was a 15-yard pass from West to Simpson to put St.Edward up 28-0 and PAT by Parker Guillaume gave the Braves the 30-0 lead.

The Monarchs were finally able to score their only touchdown of the first half with 20.4 seconds left till half off a quarterback keeper from Zach Mitchell, but a missed extra point left the Braves with a 30-6 advantage.

St. Edward’s continued to show their control of the game by scoring and extending their lead in the third quarter with a 15-yard pass from West to Simpson. The touchdown, with a missed PAT, gave the Braves a 36-6 lead.

The Monarch’s showed some grit with a scoring drive led by Branden Steerman and Will McMillan. The Monarchs pulled together and scored their last touchdown of the game with a pass from Steerman to McMillan. A PAT by Cameron Teege was good. With the Monarch’s touchdown on the board St.Edward’s lead was cut to 36-14.

The Braves scored their next touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Brandon Campisano to Will Pfister to give the Braves the 42-14 lead. Campisano ran for the PAT giving St. Edward the 43-14 lead.

Rounding out the scoring was the Braves’ Pfister, who recovered a Monarchs fumble in the end zone to give the Braves the 49-14 win.

St.Edward looks to remain undefeated when they face St. Margaret Mary at John Paul II next week. St.Mary’s will have a bye next week.
