St. Bernard, Holy Trinity advance to 8-AA Toy Bowl

St. Bernard, Holy Trinity advance to 8-AA Toy Bowl

The St. Bernard and Holy Trinity football teams won 8-AA semifinal games at St. Rita Sunday to advance to the 8-AA Toy Bowl.

St. Bernard 41, St. Margaret Mary 7

St. Bernard crushed St. Margaret Mary 41-7 Sunday at St. Rita to advance to the 8-AA championship game.

The Wildcats scored their first touchdown just three plays into the first quarter with a 29-yard run by Grant Goodman. St. Bernard’s Jack Sivori ran in the PAT to put the Wildcats up 7-0 with 7:13 left in the first quarter.

The Mustangs couldn’t get anything going on their first possession punting the ball back to the Wildcats. The Wildcats Sivori threw a 30-yard pass to Goodman for another St. Bernard touchdown. Goodman ran in the PAT to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead.

St. Margaret Mary would again punt the ball back to St. Bernard.  The Wildcats Sivori ran for 50 yards for a touchdown, but the PAT was no good leaving St. Bernard up 20-0 at half.

The Wildcats Brady Willis ran the ball in to the end zone from the three to put St. Bernard up 26-0. With a PAT run by Luke Saner, the Wildcats extended their lead to 27-0 in the third.

The Mustangs again fail to convert the ball having to punt the ball back to the Wildcats. On the next series St. Bernard’s Goodman ran 28 yards for touchdown to put the Wildcats up 33-0. St. Bernard’s Goodman would also run in the PAT to extend their lead to 34-0 in the third.

St. Margaret Mary’s Dylan Tuner ran for 40-yards for the Mustangs only touchdown.  The PAT run by Hal Holbrook put the score at 34-7.

The Wildcats scored their last touchdown of the game off a 10-yard run by Willis , with a PAT by Matt Vittitow good to put them up 41-7.

The Mustang tried to score one more time but an interception that was caught by the Wildcats Josh Brown secured the 41-7 win.

St. Bernard will be heading to the Toy Bowl to face the Holy Trinity Eagles next Sunday at Trinity High School at 5 p.m.

Holy Trinity 24, St. Martha 7

The Holy Trinity Eagles cruised past the St. Martha Shamrocks 24-7 in the second 8-AA semifinal game Sunday at St. Rita.

The Eagles scored their first touchdown of the game off a pass from Evan Elder to John Paul Jardina to put Holy Trinity up 6-0.  The PAT by Elder was good to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead.

With a sack by John Vanetti on the next series, Holy Trinity orchestrated their own momentum.

The Eagles unable to convert a first down on the next drive and would turn the ball over on downs to give the Shamrocks the ball. The Shamrocks were unable to convert either punting the ball back to the Eagles.

The Eagles scored their next touchdown with just 27 seconds left till halftime with a 3-yard run by Bennett Boehnlein, with the PAT by Elder good, Holy Trinity lead  16-0 at halftime.

On the Eagles first drive of the second half Elder’s 2-yard touchdown run put Holy Trinity up 22-0.  Elder kicked the PAT to extend the Eagles lead to 24-0.

The Shamrocks’ Sean Beam ran 10-yards for a touchdown but the PAT was no good giving the Eagles the 24-6 win.

Holy Trinity will face the St. Bernard Wildcats in the Toy Bowl next Sunday at 5 p.m. at Trinity High School.
