St. Edward defeated Notre Dame 28-8 to win their second straight 8-A Toy Bowl championship game Sunday at Trinity.

“We had a goal this year to make history,” St. Edward head coach Tim Bohn said. “St. Edward of all the great teams and all the Toy Bowls we have won at this school we have never gone back to back in seventh/eighth grade and we had that mission since day one to come out and win this thing today and we did.”

Landon Simpson’s 12-yard touchdown run put the Braves up 6-0 with 1:55 to play in the first quarter.

Quarterback Bradley West scored on a one-yard keeper to give the Braves a 12-0 advantage with 5:21 remaining in the second quarter.

Notre Dame got their lone score just before the half when Ethan Hodge’s 5-yard touchdown run cut the Braves lead to 12-8. Luke Brutscher made the PAT.

But that momentum was lost.

Simpson’s 55-yard kick return touchdown gave St. Edward a 20-8 halftime lead.

“It’s awesome to win back to back Toy Bowls,” West said. “We came in this game and everyone was a little nervous because we only beat them (Notre Dame) by one last time, but we got a good game plan. We came out and executed and got the job done.”

The Saints fumbled on their first drive of the half that St. Edward recovered on but West threw an interception to Duece Woods.

Simpson 3-yard touchdown run late, and West’s PAT decided the final margin.
