Mindy Glass is a 1987 graduate of Sacred Heart and married her husband Tommy in 1996. The young couple moved to St. Louis shortly after so Tommy could finish his fellowship in Allergy and Immunology.

After moving back to Louisville, Mindy and Tommy joined St. Margaret Mary and the couple now has three children that attend the parish school: Molly, an eighth grader, who will be attending Sacred Heart in the fall, Mallory, a sixth grader and Ryan a fourth grader. The family also has a 3 year-old Great Dane who they rescued last year.

When and how did you get your start with St. Margaret Mary?

My husband, Tommy and I moved back to Louisville in 2000 and we decided to join SMM. We started volunteering as a way to meet other parishioners. It was a great way to get involved and meet new people.

Who asked you to contribute or what got you involved?

When my oldest daughter started kindergarten at SMM I decided I wanted to get more involved with the parish and school.  I decided to start attending PTO meetings. I am so glad I did because it provided me with endless volunteer opportunities.

What sports did or do you volunteer to help and for how long?

My brother, Jim has been involved with the SMM swim team for 14 years.  He got me involved five years ago. It has turned into a family run swim team. Currently, my nephews James (a sophomore at Bellarmine) and John (a freshman at St. X) and my niece Sarah (a senior at SHA) help us coach the team. We have a lot of fun doing it together. My 8th grader is already planning to help next year.

What’s the connection with your faith and giving your time to student athletes?

The theme of our school year is "In Christ, we live, love and learn."  I think volunteering with the student athletes is a great way to be an example of this to the children.

Who was the most influential person on your volunteer career? Why?

My kids have always been my motivation to volunteer. I want them to see the importance of sharing your time and talents.

What are your major themes/principle as a volunteer?

When I volunteer I aim to be a good role model.  If I commit to something, I make it a priority.  I try to put 100% into anything I do.

What does your role at SMM bring your family?

My family enjoys being involved at SMM.  It is a great way to feel connected to the church and school. My kids enjoy that I am able to volunteer, especially at their school.

What are the fondest experiences or memories you have of your volunteer time?

I love coaching the swim team with my brother and nieces and nephews. It is always a crazy, fun time. We enjoy getting to do it together. Seeing all the new swimmers swim in their first meet is always exciting.
