Senior pitcher and Assumption alum Morgan Foley was named one of 25 finalists for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year award, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Wednesday.

As the ace of the second-ranked Greyhounds (42-3, 23-3 GLVC), Foley currently leads DII in both strikeouts per seven innings (13.4) and hits allowed per seven innings (3.0).

The Louisville native also ranks third in the nation in wins (31) and sixth in ERA (0.76), while her 1,548 career strikeouts are good for second all-time in the Division II annals.

Bellarmine University's Ally Foster has also been named as one of 25 finalists for the 2016 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year Award.

Voting will take place over the next couple of weeks, and the top 10 finalists will be announced on May 6, the top three on May 12 and the overall winner on May 16.

Foster is re-writing the Bellarmine softball record book as a pitcher and a hitter.  In the circle, she is BU's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, and shutouts. As a batter, she is BU's career leader in home runs, doubles and runs scored, and she is on track to break the career RBI and hits records.

Despite missing 12 games earlier in the season due to an injury, Foster has proven to be the GLVC's most versatile player, ranking among the league's leaders in batting average, home runs and slugging percentage and is in the conference's top three in ERA, opposing batting average, strikeouts and wins.

Against GLVC competition this season, the Louisville native is hitting .489 with a 1.222 slugging percentage, and as a pitcher sports a 1.26 ERA while batters are hitting just .198 against her.

The top 25 list also includes Great Lakes Valley Conference players Morgan Foley (UIndy), Haley Hodges (USI), and Hannah Perryman (UMSL).

The list of finalists will be whittled down to 10 in an announcement coming May 6 before the top three will be released May 12.  The 2016 Division II National Player of the Year will be revealed Monday, May 16.
