Sacred Heart’s golf team captured its second straight state title and sixth in seven years Saturday at Bowling Green Country Club.

The Valkyries shot a 41-over-par 617 to win their 11th state championship in program history. Scott County shot a 653 to come in second place.

It was a dominating performance as Ryan Bender shot a two-day 148 to win the individual title while teammate Taylor Edlin tied with Elizabethtown’s Sarah Hinton for second place.

Bender becomes the first Valkyrie to win an individual state title since Lindsay Gahm won it in 2009 and joins Heather Kraus (1993 individual state champ) as the only other three from the school to win an individual state golf championship.

Erin Rowland (20th, 160), Cameron Martin (T-27th, 163), and Jacqueline Steier (T-49th, 171) also shot for Sacred Heart.
