Assumption sophomore Lee Ann Gordon has earned a spot on the under-17 roster for the 2018 U.S. Women’s National Field Hockey Team — the first player in Assumption High School’s storied field hockey history.

She was one of only 24 students in the country to be chosen for the under-17 team and was the only high school field hockey player from Kentucky to be selected.

“Anything you want in life takes hard work and it’s working hard that has allowed me to grow and compete at this level,” Gordon said.

Try-outs were conducted Dec. 26-29, 2017 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the headquarters for the U.S. Women’s National Team. Gordon found out she made the final cut on Dec. 29.

“I was so excited to be selected from the extraordinary players that tried-out and am grateful for the privilege to play on the team,” she shared.

Gordon plays defense for the Assumption Rockets and has committed to play at the collegiate level for Wake Forest.

“I am so grateful to be at Assumption and learn from the positive example and dedication of my older teammates,” Gordon said. “It’s the relationships I have developed with my teammates and coaches that inspire me,” she added.

Team U.S.A. training starts at the end of January in San Francisco.
