Walton-Verona knocks HC out of the All "A"

The Holy Cross boys’ basketball team failed to win a game at the All “A” Classic State Tournament for the second straight year.

Walton Verona stormed out of the gates and cruised to a 58-32 victory over the Cougars in the first round at Eastern Kentucky’s McBrayer Arena Thursday night.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 26-11 halftime lead and never looked. Holy Cross trailed by as many as 32 points in the second half.

Jacquez Vasquez and Jaren McDonald led the Cougars with five points while Sam Bearden, Austin Streble, and Chase Davis each chipped in four points apiece.

Zach Clinkenbeard and Kameron Pardee both led the Bearcats with 11 points while Curry Shazier chipped in eight points and Austin Lay added seven points.

Holy Cross shot 11 of 40 (27.5 percent) from the field including a measly 3 of 17 (17.6 percent) from three-point land and 7 of 11 (63.6 percent) from the charity stripe.

Walton Verona made 23 of 49 (46.9 percent) from the field including 9 of 17 (52.9 percent) from three-point land despite only shooting 3 of 12 (25 percent) at the foul line.
