Trinity's Butler wins individual title, SHA and St. X team place second

The Sacred Heart and St. Xavier golf teams particiapted in the Leachman/GMC/Cadillac KHSAA Golf State Tournaments at Bowling Green Country Club this past week.

Sacred Heart played in the girls’ state tournament and came in seocnd-place as a team shooting a 647, eight-strokes behind winner Lexington Christian.

Taylor Edlin was the Valkyries top finisher and came in fifth-place shooting a six-over-par 152. Jacqueline Steier (163, tied for 26th-place), Emily Warner (166, tied for 34th-place), Abigail Sutherland (172, tied for 45th-place), and Cameron Martin (173, 49th-place) also shot for Sacred Heart.

Trinity’s J.M. Butler played by himself and won the individual title on the boys’ side firing a two-day five-under-par 139, beating out second-place C.M. Martin, who came in second, by three shots.

Butler is the third Shamrock to win the golf individual title, first since 1979.

St. Xavier shot a 594 and finished in second place for a second straight year, losing to Taylor County, who won it all, by two-strokes.

Robbie Bender and Drew Doyle led the Tigers and tied for sixth-place shooting a 146. Campbell Kremer (150, tied for 14th), Andrew Sullivan (152, tied for 20th), and Benton Williams (166, tied for 66th) also shot for St. X.

Luke Wiser (82) represented Holy Cross and Andrew Bennett (85) played for DeSales, but neither made the cut after day one.
