Sacred Heart’s lacrosse team stunned Eastern 7-6 Tuesday night at the Assumption Greens to advance to the state title game for the first time in three years.

It was a massive upset as Eastern had won the last five in the series including three regular season game going into the contest.

Lily Thornewill scored four goals to lead the Valkyries, Maddie Landoch had two, and Julia Jardina recorded one.

Kentucky Country Day ran past Mercy 17-5 in the first semifinal.

That sets the stage for a state final game that many have seen before. The Bearcats and Sacred Heart met in every state title game from 2011-15.

KCD will have a chance to make history by becoming the first team to win four straight lacrosse state titles.

The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at the Assumption Greens.
