LEXINGTON, Ky. - While neither the Assumption or Sacred Heart track and field teams will bring home state titles, it was still a successful day.

The  Valkyries finished with 50 points and finished in fifth while the Rockets placed 19th with 11 points.

Iaunia Porter was Sacred Heart’s leader placing third in the 100 meter dash with a 12.40 time and second in the 200 dash clocking a 26.61.

“I just had to get out really hard,” Porter said. “I didn’t worry about anybody else. If you have confidence in yourself, you don’t need to worry about anybody else.”

Cierra Scott got a third place finish in the high jump with a J5-02.00 score.

Sacred Heart’s Shelby Arnett, Lilly Mishloney, Iaunia Pointer, and Kami Springfield clocked a 1:44.86 to place in the 4x200 relay.

Assumption’s Taylor Allen skipped her own graduation.

“Yes, 1000 percent it was worth skipping graduation,” Allen said. “I’m so happy to be here. I had never placed in the hurdles before. Every single year there was something in my. It was 1000 percent worth skipping graduation.”

Allen came in third place in the 300 meter hurdles.

“I think it was all about going out fast,” Allen said. “I knew two girls on both of my sides were really good. I focused on going out fast. The weather had a lot to do with it, but I think it affected everybody.”

Rachel Dierken, Lindsey Domene, Madeline Powell, and Audrey Babcock (4x800 relay, fifth place) also scored for points for the Rockets.

Sacred Heart’s Katie Beckmann, Meredith Barnes, Estelle Gabriel, and Erin Haugh (4x800, seventh place), Pointer (400 meter dash, fifth place), Arnett (400 meter dash, seventh place), and Myia Smith (high jump, sixth place) scored points for the Valkyries.
