Cataldo resigns as DeSales head baseball coach

TJ Cataldo, who spent five seasons as the high baseball coach at DeSales has resigned, according to Athletics Director Don Bowers.

Cataldo compiled a 98-78 record which included three straight Sixth Region runner-up finishes, 2015, 2016 and 2017. In 2017, the Colts lost to eventual state champion Pleasure Ridge Park 1-0 in the region championship.

DeSales won three straight 22nd District Championships form 2015 through 2017.

Cataldo spent seven years in the program, succeeded John Hodges who was 34-35 in two seasons.

"TJ will stay on as a teacher at DeSales and focus on the classroom and spending time with his family," Bowers tweeted Thursday night. "We thank him for his dedication."

The Colts finished 17-16 this season with a 9-1 loss to North Bullitt, Monday. DeSales started three freshmen and listed six seniors on its roster according to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association website.

Asked following the Colts lopsided loss to North Bullitt, if he were coming back for another year, he replied. "I don't know, nothing is ever etched in stone."

DeSales beat the Eagles 8-6 in the regular season, March 26, but finished the season losing to their final two games to Butler and North Bullitt.
