Hard luck strikes Ben Rhodes once again.

The Louisville native was involved in two separate accidents not of his own making during Saturday’s M&M’s 200 and finished 17th. It’s the third time in four races Rhodes has finished outside the top 15.

Rhodes’ troubles began early when the No. 41 Alpha Energy Solutions team decided to make a pit stop under caution on lap 27 to improve the handling of his Ford F-150. Shortly after the restart on lap 31, Christian Eckes started a multi-truck accident and Rhodes’ truck received minor damage on the right side. He was able to continue in the race but did not collect any stage points.

Rhodes battled all the way back to sixth when his night turned sour once again. On lap 136 of 200, his ThorSport Racing teammate Matt Crafton blew a tire in turn one and triggered a four-truck accident, collecting Rhodes, John Hunter Nemechek and Stewart Friesen. The damage to Rhodes’ truck was not severe enough to put him out of the race, but the accident ended any chance of scoring a good finish.

Rhodes’ string of misfortune the past month has cost him greatly in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings. With just one top-ten finish over a four-race span, the Holy Cross High School graduate has dropped from second to seventh in points. He will have an opportunity to turn things around next Saturday night when the series visits Gateway Motorsports Park. Race coverage begins at 8:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
