Most surprising LCSN girls stories of 2018

The surprising and the unsurprising happen every school year, the LCSN schools always have that high level of expectation on the field, win or lose. Here’s a look at the surprising female LCSN stories of the year – good and bad – most are pleasant – but there was one that simply could not be left off this list.

5. Pres stuns HC in 2-OT, wins fourth straight All "A" region title

Despite trailing by as many as 13 points in the first half, the host Toppers made a furious comeback and stunned Holy Cross 73-70 in a double overtime thriller to win their fourth straight All “A” Classic Sixth Region title.


4. Holy Cross’ Nevaeh Gupton wins Class A Track and Field title

Nevaeh Gupton of Holy Cross, only a freshman, and running in her third meet ever, won the 100-meter dash.


3. Presentation softball wins first district title in 13 years

The Toppers were 13-14 and beat Manual 5-3 in the 25th District championship game, avenging a 9-0 regular season loss to the same team.


2. Sacred Heart basketball amazing season comes to a stunning surprising halt

The Valkyries defeated Manual 77-30 in late January, but then lost to the same team 55-52 in the Seventh Region championship game and saw their season come to a heartbreaking close.


1. Mercy basketball goes on a stunning run, finishes as state runner-up

Mercy’s basketball team went on a run their community won’t soon forget even though the St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament championship game was a complete disaster.
