NORMAN, Okla.--The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on Friday morning that Bellarmine University had been named the "18Birdies Academic National Champion" for NCAA Division II.  The Knights team boasted a 3.69 grade point average for the academic year in a season that saw them advance to the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year.

St. Xavier alums Samuel George and Lucas Jones and Trinity alums James Inman and D.J. Vogt are four of the 10 members on the team.

Joining Bellarmine as Academic National Champions were New Mexico (Division I), Swarthmore (Division III), Bethel (KS) (NAIA), Dodge City (NJCAA DI) and South Mountain (NJCAA DII). "18Birdies is proud of the work these programs have accomplished off the course and to present this year's Team Academic Awards," said 18Birdies' Founder and CEO, Eddy Lui. "We'll continue to support the next generation of golfers as we know they will be the next leading voice to grow the game."

A record number 222 teams submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher to earn 18Birdies All-Academic Team recognition.

A total of 48 teams received President's Special Recognition status for having team GPAs of 3.5 or better.
