The 2017-18 school-year may have ended a few weeks ago, but the Louisville Catholic Sports Network Managing Editor Conor Revell wants to take a glance back and honor the most successful female sports Catholic teams in the Louisville area over the past five years.

10. Mercy Basketball

The Jaguars are a perennial power in the Sixth Region having won two regional titles since 2014 and four since 2010. This past season was especially memorable as Mercy went onto be state runner-ups.

9. Sacred Heart Basketball

The Valkyries have always been one of the best teams in the Louisville area and their list of accomplishments since the 2014 season will continue to grow. Sacred Heart has won two Seventh Region titles and won the Louisville Invitational Tournament this past year.

8. Presentation Volleyball

The Toppers have grown leaps and bound since Tom Sawyer arrived as head coach winning two All “A” Classic Statewide titles in 2015 and 16 and having won the small school Sixth Region championship four times in five years.

7. Holy Cross Softball

The small schools around the state know about the Cougars. Holy Cross has won four straight All “A” Classic Statewide championships in a row, the only school to do so, and has made the finals five straight years. They also became the first All “A” school to win a Sixth Region title back in 2016.

6. Mercy Softball

The Jaguars won four straight regional titles from 2012-15 including a state title in 2012 and then won their fifth regional championship in six years in 2017. Also included is two final four appearances and twice finishing as the fifth best team in the state.

5. Sacred Heart Volleyball

The Valkyries have to deal with archrival Assumption who is one of the premeir volleyball programs from around the country. However, Sacred Heart has held their own winning Seventh Region titles in 2014 and 2016 and a state title in 2016.

4. Mercy Volleyball

The Jaguars have won 19 straight Sixth Region championship and won a state title in 2014 and was named national champs. It’s a true dynasty with the amount of regional championships won.

3. Sacred Heart Golf

The Valkyries have dominated the scene over the past decade having six state titles in the past seven years including two consecutive. Last year they were so dominant winning both the individual and team state championship.

2. Sacred Heart Swimming

The Valkyries have produced top swimmers that are nationally known for decades, but has became increasingly dominant over the past 10 years having won six straight, eight in the past nine years, and 27 in the last 40 years, and 29 overall.

1. Assumption Volleyball

No team has been as dominant as the Rockets volleyball teams have been over the past two and a half decades. Assumption has won 20 state championships in the past 25 years and has also competed for national titles during that time span. It has been an incredible run that doesn’t appear to be losing any steam anytime soon despite Mercy and Sacred Heart being quite dominant themselves.
