The DeSales soccer team dropped a goose egg and fell to visiting Male 4-0 Tuesday night at Paul Cox Stadium.

“We went away from our style of play tonight,” DeSales head coach Shiloh Rayburn said. “We were trying to play more direct. Anytime you play a different kind of style that you not used to, it’s not going to work in your favor.”

Male flat out dominated the Colts as Dillon Neel and Amin Daneshmand netted goals in the first and Aidan Butler and Gavin Keating recorded goals in the second half.

Neel scored less than seven minutes into the game while Daneshmand recorded his goal with 4:33 left in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

“It’s never good to give up an early one,” Rayburn said. “We had some chances early to bounce back and I think that could have changed the game. But to be honest the game is played with momentum and we had our chances at the end of the first half too.”

It was much of the same in second half as Butler put DeSales in a 3-0 less than three minutes after halftime and Keating determined the final score with 24:02 left.

“Before the game we talked about how the game would be won in the midfield,” Rayburn said. “I think their midfield really stepped up and was attacking and had a lot of elusive players that can beat you. They have a lot of pace and used it.”

Male fired nine shots at Colt goalkeeper Jared Ecken who stopped two shots.

DeSales blasted five shots at Bulldog goalkeeper Brandon Isko who made two saves.

“We were flat tonight,” Rayburn said. “The movement off the ball wasn’t where it needed to be. That’s a big factor. When you’re not given the option up the field or around the ball, it’s going to be hard to do what we want. For the most part we gave an effort, but communication and movement were the major factors.”

The Colts had three corner kicks opportunities while Male was awarded four.
