On a weekly basis, Louisville Catholic Sports post the Campbellsville University- Louisville “20 Questions” feature that highlights a high school student-athlete in the local Catholic high school community. Name: John Vanetti

Current School: Trinity High School

Current Sports Playing: Wrestling

Grade school: Holy Trinity Parish School

High School GPA: 4.00

College: I’ve visited Purdue and the Naval Academy, but other options are open in the future

1. What is your proudest athletic moment? When I inexplicably turned and pinned a senior from Jeffersonville who was pummeling me a few seconds earlier with little time left on the clock. I was a freshman and it was my first high school win.

2. What is your ideal meal/snack before a game? I usually have to cut weight before tournaments, but once I weigh in, I can eat. Usually it’s something like a PB&J.

3. If you were trying out for American Idol, what would be your "go to" song? I would choose a short song like, “Her Majesty,” by the Beatles because I want to minimize the suffering of the judges who are being forced to listen to my objectively terrible voice. I will then publicly apologize to the living members of the Beatles.

4. Which athlete do you look up to on a college/professional level? Why? Even though he’s not a wrestler, and also probably the same choice for millions of kids around the world, LeBron James seems like a man who utilizes his athletic ability, wealth, and influence, very well. His I promise school exemplifies this and shows a refreshing contrast to many professional athletes who utilize the three previous things for purposes that are less charitable.

5. What is your favorite movie quote?  “Nod as I'm speaking to you. People are looking to me for reassurance and I have no idea what's going on.”-The Death of Stalin

6. How does your faith impact your approach to sports? It helps to know that God is always on your side even if it doesn’t feel like it at times.

7. What is your favorite cartoon character? The renaissance man known as Peter Griffin

8. All-time favorite board game? Risk

9. Droid, iPhone, or Blackberry? Favorite app? IPhone; Reddit

10. What is your favorite local restaurant? Salsarita’s

11. What is your favorite reality TV show? I don’t watch any reality TV, but The Biggest Loser seems like one with an actual purpose towards doing good and not just producing the largest amount of money for the people involved.

12. What is your greatest fear? That the match I put out and threw in the trash will cause a fire that engulfs my house, and by extension everything I love in an unforgiving and all-consuming inferno.

13. What is your best quality/characteristic? My ability to understand my worst characteristics

14. Favorite junk/comfort food? Peanut butter, can be delivered by any medium

15. What is your favorite hour of the day? Why? The range of hours from 10:00PM to 1:00AM when I finish homework and get to go to sleep

16. What is your nickname and how did you get it? Kids just call me, “Vanetti,” and I’m not sure most of them know my first name.

17. Where is your favorite place to volunteer/provide community service?I did a few hours at Catholic Charities over the summer and I was able to watch over the kids of some refugees that were taking classes in the same building. It offers a lot of insight into not only how privileged one is, and also how hardworking the people trying to get into this country are.
18. What is one hidden talent that you possess? To make any conversation involving members of the opposite gender unbearably awkward

19. If time machines were real, and you could choose just one to travel forward or backward which would you select and why? I would probably go back to the signing of the Declaration of Independence; so I could tell the Founding Fathers what the hell they just set in motion and how their backwater farming nation is going to become the most powerful to ever exist. Also, I’d bring a modern medical textbook and an ungodly amount of penicillin for them.

20. If you could pick one person, dead or alive, and ask them just one question that they had to answer honestly, who would you pick and what would you ask?  I would ask Albert Einstein what his last words were, because they were spoken in German to a nurse that only spoke English.
