Visiting Presentation Toppers roll onto victory past a young Valkryie squad in opening week action tonight on the campus at Sacred Heart Academy. With Coach Bob Wheatley fielding one of the youngest team's in his tenure loses 7-2. Head Coach Matt Meagher in just his third year has a team he looks forward to building on with the experience of sophomore pitcher Jenna Reliford.

“It was awesome. We desperately needed that after last night, because last night was really bad. We came out and said we were just going to hit the reset button and refocus,” said Meagher. “I thought we did a pretty good job at the plate, with pitch selection and our defense was playing really well. Jenna on the mound tonight was unbelievable. I think she only gave up a couple hits and she was hitting her spots. We left her in the whole game and she did awesome. If we can get that kind of pitching all season we can be in any ball game.”

The Toppers scored three runs in the second off Valkyrie miscues to pull ahead 3-0. Great plays by three Valkyries kept Presentation off the board till the fifth.

In the fifth Riley Harp hit a double that was followed by three RBI’s to put the Toppers up 6-0.

The Valkyries’ Casey Johnson scored off a miscommunication from the Toppers, but that would be it for Sacred Heart in the fifth as Presentation led 6-1 heading into the seventh.

Sacred Heart tried to rally in the seventh getting multiple hits, but Morgan McMillen would be the only Valkyrie to score a run in the seventh to give Presentation the 7-2 victory.

Next up for the Valkryies is at home against South Oldham tomorrow, March 20 at 6 p.m. and Presentation will travel to Meade County to take on the Lady Waves on Friday at 9 p.m. in the Mead County Mighty March Matchup Tournament.
