Behind exceptional defensive play, the Trinity Shamrocks blanked the Moeller (OH) Crusaders 41-0 on Friday night at Marshall Stadium. Not only did the defense not allow a single point, but they also held Moeller to under 100 total yards on offense.

“I thought they (defense) were just outstanding”, Trinity head coach Bob Beatty said. “They were lights out thankfully because I didn’t think we were really in rhythm tonight on offense until that very last drive.”

The Rocks did not force any turnovers, but a big forced fumble on a punt was capped off by Jack Dingle falling on the football in the endzone, doubling the Trinity lead.

The run game got going early on in the contest, and continued throughout. On a 3rd and 10 from their own one yard line, Armon Tucker took a handoff to the house for an electrifying 99 yard touchdown to put the Rocks on the board.

“In my mind, I was just trying to get the first down”, Tucker explained, “but I saw some daylight, bounced to the outside, and just took off.”

Later in the quarter, Bradley West found the endzone from 42 yards out, giving Trinity a commanding 21 point lead. Tucker ended the game with two touchdowns on the ground, the second one coming from three yards out with 7:41 in the final quarter.

The Trinity offense put the seal on it and activated the running clock when Nathan McElroy connected with tight end Kaelan Racculia for a six yard touchdown with 4:19 to play in the game.

Sebastian Mata also added two field goals (26 and 35 yards) to the scoring effort.

Trinity moves to 3-0 on the season and will host Waubonsie Valley (IL) next Friday night at 7:00 PM.

A win is a win, but Beatty knows that there is plenty that his team needs to work on. “That’s just the way it goes, but I’m proud of them”, he explained, “if it was perfect, then we wouldn’t have anything to work on tomorrow. I felt like in the critical zone, we kind of lost our way.”

“When we make a bad play, coach tells us to learn from it and move on”, Tucker added. “We’ve got practice on Saturday and will watch film to identify and correct some of the mistakes we’ve made.”
