Knights' LAX star Colton Clark selected in 1st round, ninth overall

The Colorado Mammoth selected right-handed forward Colton Clark with the ninth-overall pick (1st round) in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft in Toronto, Ontario on Monday night. One year ago, the Mammoth had five of the first 16 picks; tonight, the team had one in the first 43 and just three overall.

“Just like we did last year when we made Adam [Jones] our first pick, we got our guy again this year,” said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley, referring to Clark. “Colton's a big body who can shoot the ball. He has good hands.”

The 6'3”, 215-pound forward from Nanaimo, British Columbia played college lacrosse at Bellarmine University. Clark played with the Burnaby Lakers in the Western Lacrosse Association this summer.

Clark was the Knights' leading scorer last season, netting 20 goals and dishing out 12 assists.  With the Mammouth, Clark will join former Bellarmine teammate Derek Hopcroft, who scored 15 goals in 11 appearances in 2012.

In the fifth round (44th overall), the Mammoth picked right-handed transition player Jaden Gastaldo. The 5'11”, 180-pounder is known for his tremendous speed.

University of Denver alumnus Alex Demopoulos was Colorado's sixth-round selection (53rd overall). The 5'10”, 190-pound forward graduated in June as the Pioneers' all-time leader in career assists (82), and is third in school history in points (176).
