The Bellarmine University field hockey program has announced a 17 game regular season for the upcoming 2013 season that will also include the second annual Independent Schools Alliance Tournament.

Coach Mark Blankenbaker's Knights are coming off a 6-12 season and will play six games at home at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium where the team is 15-7 over the last three years.

Bellarmine will open the 2013 campaign on the road by playing two games in Kutztown, Pa. on Sept. 6-7 as part of the Joshua W. Wesner Tournament. BU will take on Mercy College in day one of the event before taking on perennial power and host Kutztown University on day two.

The team will then come back to the friendly confines of Owsley B. Frazier Stadium for a three game homestand with games against Lindenwood (Sept. 13), Bloomsburg (Sept. 14) and Seton Hill (Sept. 21), all three games are slated for a noon start time.

On Sept. 28, Bellarmine will travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on the Saints of Limestone College, one of the surprise teams nationally in 2012 after finishing 13-5. The Saints and Knights will play a home-and-home in 2013 with the return game in Louisville set for Oct. 10. After taking on Limestone, the Knights will stay in South Carolina and square off against Newberry College, a first-year program, on Sept. 29.

In-state rival Centre College visits Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on Oct. 1 for a 7:00 game under the lights. Bellarmine will return the favor later in the month (Oct. 29) with a visit to Danville, Ky. for the two teams' yearly two game series. The two teams split the series last year with the Colonels pulling off the overtime victory 2-1 in Danville, but the Knights exacted revenge in the second leg with a 2-1 victory of their own.

This year Bellarmine will again venture to the Big Apple for a two game swing playing at Dowling College (Oct. 12) and Mercy College (Oct. 14). Located in Oakdale, N.Y., Dowling is also in their first season of competition.

Bellarmine will head back on the road on Oct. 18 & 20 playing Hendrix College on the campus of Lindenwood on Friday then taking on the Lions on Sunday.

The Knights' final road trip of the season will send them to the state of Pennsylvania to face Indiana (PA) on Oct. 24 and Mercyhurst on Oct. 26. Last season, Bellarmine upset the then No.7 ranked Hawks of Indiana (PA) 1-0 on a goal by Rachael Walz. It would be Walz's only goal of the season as the All-American injured her knee during later in the game and missed the remainder of the season.

Rhodes College will come to Louisville on Nov. 3 for the regular season finale, a game that will also be Senior Day for nine members of the team. Rhodes won the matchup last season in overtime, one of three overtime losses for the Knights.

After hosting the first ever Independent Schools Alliance Tournament in 2012, the annual tournament will move to Missouri on the campus of Lindenwood University on Nov. 7-9. The format and schedule will be announced at a later date.
