St. Catharine’s “Runnin Patriots” scored a top five overall finish at the Centre College Track Invitational.

The Patriots made their mark early, winning both the men’s long jump, high jump and triple jump. Chris Johnson dominated the long jump with a 6.30-meter mark, just less than a meter in front of teammate Tyler Dunn, who went 5.45.

In the triple jump, William Bailey improved by eight-tenths of a meter his previous best with a 13.56. Teammates Shaun Gordon and Johnson stuck top-four finishes as well to give the Patriots 21 points in the event.

Johnson made his mark once more in the high jump when he posted a 1.93-meter mark to oust the second-place finisher by a mere five one-hundredths of a meter, scoring the Patriots 10 more points in the final standings.

On the women’s side, Brooke Gee placed third in the shot put with a personal best 10.89.

Gee’s hurl scored the Patriots six points in the final standings and served as the best finish on the year for the Lady Patriots in that event. Lindsey Vinson held up her end of the bargain when she threw the javelin 28.24 distance, good for third place.

Following right behind were teammates Sam Osborn and Rebecca Just in their first attempt at javelin in their careers. The duo nailed down top-10 finishes with marks of 22.58 for Osborn and 20.58 for Just.

The Patriots will head to the Mid-South Conference Championships this weekend at the University of Cumberlands for a chance at a national tournament berth.
