The week ahead: St. Xavier-Trinity week
It is St. Xavier-Trinity week; the two rivals will square off in football and soccer as well as vie for the Sixth Region crown in golf. The week starts Tuesday with the Sixth Region golf tournament. The soccer version of the rivalry is Wednesday, and THE GAME will be played Friday night.
Other big events include the Fifth Region girls’ golf tournament. Sacred Heart is looking to win its fourth straight state title. Senior Maddie Hamilton, a Notre Dame commit, is one of the state’s top golfer and is a favorite to win the individual crown.
The DeSales and Iroquois soccer teams will meet in a 22nd District showdown Tuesday. The winner will get the No. 1 seed in the district tournament and will have an easier road to the Sixth Region Tournament.
The loser will face Butler in a game that has been decided in penalty kicks the last two years. DeSales lost to Butler in PKs in 2012, while Iroquois lost to Butler in PKs in 2013. Iroquois, which won the district regular-season tite in 2012 and won the district tournament while DeSales did the same in 2013.
Football Friday features THE GAME, while DeSales will host Fort Knox in a district matchup. Holy Cross is off this week.
