Sacred Heart has announced the hiring of Whitney Thompson as its new head tennis coach replacing Chris McGill.

McGill had been the head coach of the Valkyries for the past three seasons and led them to a state title in 2014 and was state runner up this past spring.

Thompson is a 2000 Sacred Heart alum, a former state runner up, and went onto play at the University of Kentucky.

After her collegiate career, she ran multiple ATP and WTA Tournaments. She also managed Serena and Venus Williams Tour Across America.

Sacred Heart has a storied tennis program having won nine state titles. The now defunct Lone Oak is the only program with more, having 11.

The school merged with Heath and Reidland to become McCracken County High School which has two in its first two years of existence.
