Thomas aiming for history

St. Xavier alum Justin Thomas will attempt to become the fifth golfer to ever win the PGA Championship back-to-back years this weekend at Bellerive Country Club which located right outside of St. Louis in a suburb called Town and Country, Mo.
Tiger Woods is the only golfer to have ever won the PGA Championship two years in a row as a stroke event and he’s grouped with Thomas.
Up until 1957 it was a match-play event, that changed in 1958. Three golfers repeated in the event before it became a stroke-play tournament.
Rory McIlroy, the fifth ranked golfer in the world, will round out the group.
The group will tee off at 9:23 a.m. EDT Thursday and at 2:48 p.m. EDT Friday.
Last year Thomas became the first Louisvillian to win the PGA Championship since 1964, he’s currently the No. 2 golfer in the world, right behind Dustin Johnson.
